Unlike the few other known covers from this American ship wreck, this is the only one, apparently, with a clear strike of the post office handstamp explaining the interrupted mail disaster. A NEW DISCOVERY!!!
The only other example that I can find is from the 2010 Grosvenor Auction Sale: 62 The Jerry Santangelo Interrupted Mail: Ship Wrecks: 1908 (Mar. 17) S.S. ''Pomona'' sailing from San Francisco to Eureka, California, went ashore near Fort Ross. The mail was lying in 30 feet of water and 200 bags of mail were salvaged. Envelope from Ohio to Eureka, bearing faint (as usual) cachet ''FROM WRECK OF S.S. POMONA/MARCH 17 1908''. Stated to be one of five reported. Photo. Price Realised c£675 with buyer's premium.
