Fine letter from William Didsbury of Rye to Bartholomew Corsini in Gracechurch Street, London. William Disdsbury was Jurat of Rye from 1580 to 1593 when Rye was a great port serving Dieppe for Ronen, Paris and Lyon. Didsbury was part owner of the ship 'Charity' and a forwarding agent operating a courier service to London. The letter, written in French was taken by a trusted carrier 'Robert de U'. Note the signs on parcels 4 and 5. The letter was dated 1st June 1587. 'The waterman would have delivered case 5 as marked. Corsini was to pay him at the ordinary rate. Another case (number 4) had arrived as illustrated. Instructions awaited. A very fine letter with red wax seal.
