GB 2d. blue (pl.14) on large part cover, neatly cancelled G06 used abroad in BEYROUT British Levant.The GB stamp is used in combination with a French 30c. cancelled '(50)80' in transit at the French Post Office at Alexandria. The 30c. value is seldom seen on such mixed frankings.A French stamp has been removed and is missing. The letter has been sent to Switzerland (a most unusual destination from Beyrout), showing Geneva and Glarus datestamps.The Beyrout despatch c.d.s. is for 31 July 1874 and the Alexandria transit mark is dated 4 August.The letter also shows a scarce boxed 'APRES LE DEPART' mark on the front.A very rare GB/France Mixed Franking from British Levant - (expertisation mark on the reverse)..Note on Postage: Over £50 must be sent special delivery signed for @ £5 U.K. or £5.80 international signed for.
